Ubermind has announced the release of Maperture, a free plug-in for Apple's Aperture.

Maperture can be used to "geotag" the photographs in your Aperture library -- adding Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinate information to the metadata embedded with the photo. Creating location-aware photos helps other people easily identify where your pictures were taken, and can help you develop a context for slideshow and other photo presentations -- create a "walking tour" of a city you've visited, for example, or provide effective details to potential real estate investors about a plot of land you're selling.

Maperture 1.0.1 is the current version. It measures 8MB, and requires Aperture 2.0 or later, Mac OS X 10.4.11 or Mac OS X 10.5.2 or later.
